SKAFF: to vypadá dobře.

Mark Zuckerberg najal manažery kampaní Obamy a Bushe. A jak píše Quartz v Mark Zuckerberg just hired the guys who helped win three of the last four US presidential elections, můžeme je brát jako ty, kdo vyhráli poslední čtyři prezidentské volby. Přidejme si k tomu to, že Mark se chystá vyrazit na cestu po všech amerických státech. Vypadá to, že Amerika bude za pár let řešit další zásadní problém s novým prezidentem. Protože tenhle bude mít mesiášský syndrom a absolutní neúctu k soukromí a lidem.

A Stronger, Faster Predator Drone Could Soon Prowl Europe’s Airspace
https://www.wired.com/2016/12/stronger-faster-predator-drone-soon-prowl-europes-airspace/

General Atomic’s updated Predator made its maiden flight last month in Palmdale, California. The Certifiable Predator B is the latest in a lineage that include several models of the original MQ-1 Predator, and numerous incarnations of the beefier Predator B—renamed the MQ-9 Reaper—upon which the new model is based. It’s slated to enter service in late 2018 with the UK’s Royal Air Force, which has ordered 16, plus the ground stations that house the cockpits and communication hardware.
When it reaches the Brits, the new drone will be the first remotely piloted (not autonomous) vehicle to meet the STANAG 4671 standards that NATO established in 2007 to keep everybody safe in airspace shared by drones, commercial airliners, and private aircraft. That means the Predator will be allowed to use civilian and commercial airports anywhere on the continent, vastly expanding its capabilities and missions types, from border patrol to disaster relief.

Britain hasn’t requested the integration of US-made weapons systems, such as the Hellfire air-to-ground missiles fired by previous versions purchased by the RAF. Instead, the RAF reportedly plans to use locally designed armaments, including the Brimstone air-to-ground missile and the Paveway laser-guided bomb.

The new Predator can’t zoom through US airspace. But when the FAA eventually drafts standards similar to NATO’s, the drone’s modifications presumably will allow flights at American airports. The Air Force is upgrading its own Predators with these enhancements, meaning you may one say soon see one taxiing around JFK.

A neci komentar:

This article seems to assume that most Americans know that the FAA is about to allow military surveillance drones to operate freely in the domestic US airspace. As someone who has been trying for two years to get ANYONE in the US media to report this, I can tell you that they do not. It has not been mentioned in any news story that I can find anywhere since Feb. 13th, 2012 - the day before the 2012 FAA Act was signed into law, setting all the drone integration process in motion. Since then, complete silence about this impending threat to civilian aviation, not to mention our free society.

Boundaries of Law: Exploring Transparency, Accountability, and Oversight of Government Surveillance Regimes by Douwe Korff, Ben Wagner, Julia Powles, Renata Avila, Ulf Buermeyer :: SSRN
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2894490

Public opinion has shifted since the Snowden revelations. Now more than ever, we need an informed debate on the role of government surveillance in national security and law enforcement. We need to ensure that such surveillance is accountable and transparent.

Experts surveyed in the 2014 Web Index concluded that 84% of the 86 countries covered lacked even moderately effective oversight and accountability mechanisms to protect Internet users from indiscriminate surveillance. A finding as worrying as this needs to be tested, so we carried out a deeper comparative analysis of a smaller sample of countries: Kenya, DR Congo, South Africa, Colombia, Germany, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, France, Turkey, Egypt, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. We conducted interviews and desk research on each jurisdiction to get a better idea of the current state of affairs. We have also tried to analyse intra-country intelligence sharing networks and “clubs”, but since much of this occurs without accountability, transparency, or meaningful oversight, there are limits to that analysis.

C3TV -3 Years After Snowden: Is Germany fighting State Surveillance?

Snowden: Surveillance is about control - EDRi
https://edri.org/snowden-surveillance-control/

As Snowden pointed out, we’ve repeatedly seen evidence that mass surveillance is actually not effective in stopping terrorism. And yet despite that, we see more and more political support, not only to continue these programmes, but to expand them, and to fund them to even greater levels. As we see in many of EU countries, there is a trend of giving more power to the intelligence agencies, without the reflection of how their activities affect citizens’ rights.

...

Democracy is supposed to be the informed consent of the governed. However, if we are not informed, we cannot really consent to what is happening. Snowden revelations and the inquiry committee in Germany have shown that “spy agencies” function in a way that contradicts the principle of democracy, since they are operating in secret and there’s often no control over whether they are breaking laws.

Snowden pointed out the new harsh surveillance legislation in China and Russia passed with the argument of “just keeping up with the Western world”. He expressed his concern about our society no longer being worried about human rights – we are only barely concerned with the rights of our co-citizens. However, Snowden reminded the audience, human rights are universal, and regulated by several international rights agreements and treaties.

The fact is that no country is immune to the trend of increasing mass surveillance. Rights are being violated indiscriminately by intelligence agencies, not only in China and Russia, but in the US, Germany, in the UK, in Canada. And as Snowden put it, secret government is necessarily a bad government. In order not to have bad governments, we have to take action. It might seem that Snowden is preaching to the choir, but his appeal to stand for our privacy and the privacy of others still generates much-needed inspiration.
