"...colossal shimmer that sounds like Tim Hecker reconfiguring classic Raga structures..."

Poslední album Misfortune využívá malé strunné nástroje ze všech koutů světa podobné citeře (samozřejmě v nekonečných smyčkách a ozvěnách) s field recordings a zachycuje údajně pocity z návalů úzkosti, ateismu, selhávajícího zdraví a sledování neštěstí ostatních.

Italské duo Matar Dolores vytváří svůj strukturovaný noise se zřejmou náklonností k filozofii musique concrete (avšak bez akademické suchopárnosti), naživo pak prý vynikají širokou dynamikou a hloubkou zvuku.

Concern is the solo music project of Gordon Ashworth, created in 2004.
Ashworth’s music is derived from acoustic instruments, magnified overtones and harmonic resonance, tempered and contrasted by tape manipulation, field recordings and heavy collage. Composed through shifting presences of swelling harmonies and intimate decay, and steeped in the emotions and nausea of introversion and the outside world, it is music meant to feel at once antique, modern and surreally timeless.
Gordon Ashworth has released two full-length albums as Concern, and has performed live throughout the U.S., Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He lives in Portland, Oregon and is involved in the projects Oscillating Innards, CAEN, Knelt Rote, Black Air, and Vile Horrendous Aerial Bombardment.

MATAR DOLORES is a collaborative effort consisting of Francesco Tignola and Giuseppe Esposito, active in Naples, in the south of Italy. Their sound research is based on a massive use of field recordings in a strict compositional perspective and clever breaks of “music”; their gigs usually hit audience for depth and dynamism. First official release, a c 20 tape dedicated to philosopher Karl Polanyi, will see the light in early 2012 through the italian label Joy De Vivre ( www.joydevivre.it ).

„Concern is the recording project of Gordon Ashworth who in a previous incarnation (as Oscillating Innards) delivered an altogether more brutal take on experimental music before planting his feet firmly in the world of shimmering, layered drones. The first thing to hit you about this amazing album is the custom-designed silkscreened gatefold sleeve it comes in, one of those packages that has you flipping it inside out in wonder, a fitting precursor to the music itself which is just nothing short of immense. Despite the heavily processed sound of this material, the three long tracks here (clocking in at a total of 30 minutes) were constructed almost entirely out of acoustic instrumentation, with the opening piece gradually building from a frayed field recording into a colossal hum of dense, layered drone that just seems to expand and develop without any perceptible change. It’s inspiring, deceptively visceral stuff. Next up - ‘Young Birth’ begins along a similar trajectory but soon curls up into into an incubated assembly of disentangled instruments, before the epic closing “Heratsink” proceeds to completely obliterate the vast majority of what passes for contemporary Drone with a colossal shimmer that sounds like Tim Hecker reconfiguring classic Raga structures into something almost unspeakably beautiful. Amazing music.“

„Gordon Ashworth has carefully crafted "Misfortune" as the final album and conclusion under the Concern project which was recorded throughout 2011 to early 2012 and is entirely based on the 15 string box-harp (an American folk instrument also known as the "lap harp"). Every sound on the album was initially created by this box-harp and field recordings. The three compositions are Ashworth's direct impressions of traditional melodies for the Valiha Marovany (a box-harp instrument from Madagascar) and the Kora (a West African gourd-harp instrument). The emotional essences of these melodic lines and tunings were severely abstracted and magnified into new realms of emotional and psychological reaction. These recordings of the box-harp were gradually combined with social field recordings and drastically manipulated by several methods of cassette-based looping and delay, speakers and microphones, and using massive underground hospital parking garages as crude, guerrilla echo chambers. The effect is intended to recreate the overwhelming emotional effects of the original melodies, as well as the feelings of anxiety attacks, atheism, agoraphobia, failing health, and observing misfortune in others.“
