PRAGUE BIENNALE 5, presented together with PRAGUE BIENNALE PHOTO 2 is polymorphous, multifaceted, multicultural exhibition in continuous dialogue with itself as well as with its audience.
Prague Biennale, the biggest international contemporary art exhibition in Prague, Czech Republic, with patronage of Minister of Culture and the City of Prague is held every two years. The biennale was founded in 2003 by Helena Kontova and Giancarlo Politi and is organized by Nadace Prague Biennale Foundation (established in 2004). The Prague Biennale Foundation also publishes Flash Art CZ & SK, the Czech and Slovak edition of Flash Art magazine and also organizes Prague Biennale Photo.
Now we are welcoming you to the 5th edition, which is coordinated by the directors Helena Kontova and Giancarlo Politi together with Prague Biennale Foundation curator Nicola Trezzi.
As every year, the central focus is painting in its multiple expressions. Another topic of Prague Biennale is a presentation of new emerging art from the region, from both the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Furthermore the exhibition will present artists from the US, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Great Britain, Portugal, Canada, Norway, and Switzerland among others. This year the biennal also includes a section of 22 artists from India, which will be presented for the first time in Czech Republic in a comprehensive selection that includes established, young and emerging artists.
As before, the 2nd edition of Prague Biennale Photo is an international exhibition with an eye on what has been produced in Central Europe. The Prague Photo Biennale is organized every two years in coordination with the Prague Biennale. Prague Biennale Photo was established in 2009 after the successful presentation of Czech photographers at Prague Biennale 3 in 2007. The 2007 show was curated by Vladimir Birgus in collaboration with Tomas Pospech. The main section of this year?s photo edition is ?Romantic Construct?, a survey that displays the narrow boundaries between art and photography, as well as the second section ?Inside - Outside? - a presentation of emerging Polish photographers.
